My Esteem Program

Goals

The My Esteem Program is a self-esteem program for adolescent girls that aims to:

  • Build self-esteem and confidence
  • Enhance resiliency and coping skills
  • Build support networks and positive role models
  • Empower adolescents and their families
     

 

 

Techniques

The My Esteem Program integrates the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with elements of Interpersonal Therapy and Social Skills training.

The Program focuses on issues such as self esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.

 

Age Range

The R.E.A.D. Clinic is coordinating the My Esteem Program for adolescent girls, for two age groups:

  1. Girls in Year 7 and 8
  2. Girls in Year 9 and 10

Content

The outline of the My Esteem Program is detailed below in very broad themes and topics that are covered each week. Each lesson is 2hrs in length.

Lesson One: Introduction and self-esteem
Lesson Two: Building our self-esteem and beating off low self-esteem
Lesson Three: Personal strengths and valuing our own unique identity
Lesson Four: Changing negative thoughts
Lesson Five: Saying “No” and standing strong
Lesson Six: Walking the line: Electronic Do’s and Dont’s
Lesson Seven: Finding the beauty within
Lesson Eight: Putting it all together: A plan to keep me emotionally healthy for life.

 

Dates/Times

Term 3: Starting early in June, the group will meet Thursday afternoons for 8 weeks.

 

Cost

$70.00 per 2hr lesson, total cost of program is $560.00

A medicare rebate may apply if you obtain a referral for your child to attend the group from your GP (a BAMH).

 

How to Join

The My Esteem Programs only allows for up to 10 participants in the group.
